Community Involvement

Making a difference in our community is important to us because an investment in community is an investment in the future. We are dedicated to improving the community in which we live, work, and play, through active involvement and meaningful participation.

I am a member of the Rapid City Chamber, St Johns Church and Harmony Lodge 110.  I sit on the local and state Board of Directors for the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Through Northwestern Mutual the Black Hills  we are involved in raising funds and awareness for Alex's Lemonade Stand in the fight against childhood cancer.

In 2014, Northwestern Mutual of the Black Hills proudly joined in the fight against pediatric cancer by partnering with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF).

In 2000, ALSF founder four-year-old Alex Scott held her first lemonade stand to raise money to find a cure for kids with cancer - whiling bravely battling her own. Alex raised an astonishing $2,000 at her first stand and set in motion what would become a national movement to fight childhood cancer.

Through hosting many ALSF lemonade stands, our efforts in 2014 resulting in raising $1,650.

We also committed to hosting an annual event, Alex's MESSY GAMES. What do peanut butter, whip cream, ketchup and cereal all have in common?  Every summer, we sponsor Alex's Messy Games to raise money for cancer awareness.  There are fun activities for all ages.  With the help of our whole office and many young volunteers, we sell lemonade, play games, throw food and jam to music - all while raising money toward pediatric cancer through a free will donation. Join us in the fun this year.
